Eco Threads

“Being eco-chic is not a throw away trend, but some of the clothes can be. This tencel blouse is biodegradable, thanks to the wood-pulp fibres from trees grown on sustainably run farms. And the print is water based ink that wont harm the earth if it ever ends up in landfill. If that’s not enough to blow you away, Local label Starfish, which also made the organic cotton denim skirt, is a sustainable business (with awards to prove it) that uses vegetable dyed paper bags, recycled buttons and buckles, and organic and natural fabrics where possible.”

NZ Women’s Health, April 2009.

Sustainable Fashion

“Fashion designers everywhere are making conscious choices to bring sustainable practices into their everyday working and creative environments. From the fabrics used in garments, to the packaging used to distribute collections – designers are realising that green suits everyone.

Where possible, Starfish sources New Zealand made fabrics with sustainable qualities such as organic denims, cottons and hemp. They also use recycled buttons and buckles, paper bags with a vegetable based dye and chlorine free tissues.”

Switching off is a simple action that can make a difference and it sends a powerful message that the people of the world care about the future of the planet.

What Can You Do?

and find out other ways that you can participate..
2. Turn all your lights off and take appliances off standby.
3. Spread the word about Earth Hour.

At Starfish we’ll be participating by turning our lights off during Earth Hour as well as giving away free candles on the day to help you prepare. Starfish designer Laurie Foon is also an ambassador for Earth Hour, spreading the word and the vision.
